Actually, it's just a hellebore and usually called
Christmas Rose
or Lenten Rose, but for my purpose today
of
wishing  you all a
Wonderful New Year...
let’s call it a New Year’s Rose

and let’s call this a New Year’s Tree because it is
so full of life

and Skimmia, which is a fleeting garden presence,
is at this moment full of verve  -- fine Christmas decor,
this nice reddish-purple

Holiday green and red is even better when
the red’s a little richer,
like burgundy or claret...
those gorgeous bacchanalian colors
of grapes and wine can only
be achieved in  nature

The Holidays have been good to us

but we didn’t go all out because now we are off on a jaunt to Tuscany, Florence to be exact,
to take in all the wonders.
  In my pre-now life I was too busy shopping and
I have to admit, I couldn't tell one saint from the other

Things have changed radically.
Now I will not miss glorious things like the
Vasari Corridor and the
frescoed Churches...so, I really feel this
family trip is
as if my first time.

That walkway on top of the Ponte Vecchio is the art-lined corridor that was built by the Medicis to take them across the river to the Pitti Palace without having to mingle.

I can hardly wait, but
because I will be away til January 15th,
