Leave Some Leaves

Not only do they provide wonderful piles in which sweet kids like The Wolf boys can play---- but there are many reasons to leave some leaves. Don't be so fastidious about getting rid of each and every one --- tell those yard guys with their big blowers not to be quite so meticulous. Fallen leaves are part of the natural cycle for God's sake and as such they provide good and natural cover for the winter ahead. Let them pile up around trees and shrubs and leave a thin layer on the gardens too --- it is part of Mother Nature's plan.

And often, they are spectacularly beautifulThis contrast of fabulous fallen Magnolia macrophylla - all veiny and golden - with the sheeny green of Summer Magnolia is just, let's face it, divine...And be sure to leave grasses and seed-poddy things for the poor starving
birds....
